Highland Hose VFC has served our community since 1937. Considering the COVID 19 Pandemic and its financial fallout, we have decided to suspend our 2020 Annual Fund Drive. Unemployment and financial hardships have plagued potential donors in our community, and we feel it is important for families to make their physical, mental and financial health their priorities.
We are monitoring the COVID19 situation carefully and will comply with all governmental guidelines as we look forward to the second half of 2020 and those guidelines will dictate how we proceed.
We had to cancel our Annual Recruitment and Open House which was traditionally held in April. Some events that are still in our plans are the Highland Happenings in September, Fire Prevention and Halloween Haunted House in October, Election Day Chicken BBQ in November and Storytime with Santa in December. Our regular programs will continue as safely as possible. These are the Exploring Program, Rope Rescue Team Drills and regular training and drills. Our scholarships will still be awarded to two high school seniors who display a spirit of volunteerism and have enrolled in a college medical program. CPR classes will be available to the community when they are safe to conduct.
This year Highland Hose will be donating to the cause of the Sturgeon Point Marina. Lake Erie and Sturgeon Point has been the site of many emergencies in the past. As first responders we feel that the access at Sturgeon Point is critical to lifesaving in water related accidents. Next to a family member, a first responder bears most of the post trauma stress of an injury or fatality.
Please know that if you have an emergency please call 911 and Highland Hose will be there to help.
It has been our pleasure to serve Highland and Derby over the past 83 years and look forward to the future.
Respectfully,
Highland Hose Vol Fire Co.
